Transport accident insurance

Transport accident insurance is carried out based on the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated August 14, 1996. No. 959 On Approval of the Regulation on Compulsory Personal Insurance Against Transport Accidents.

This insurance program is compulsory and provides for insurance against personal injury and disability of road traffic accident victims.

Regardless of the form of ownership and type of business, companies that are directly involved in transportation should insure their employees.

Who can be insured?

Under the Transport Accident Insurance Program, the following persons shall be insured:

• the driver of the vehicle;
• passengers.

The amount of the sum insured is determined per each insured in the amount of 6,000 non-taxable minimum incomes (UAH 102,000 as of 2019).

The insurance rate will be 0.18% of the sum insured per one insured and will depend on:

• the number of insured;
• the period of the insurance contract.

Insured event occurrence:

An insured event occurs in the following cases:

• death of the insured as a result of a transport accident;
• injuries that led to the disability of the insured;
• temporary disability.

The insurance company pays:

• 100% of the sum insured in case of death of the insured;
• 90% of the sum insured in case of being registered as a group 1 disabled person as a result of injuries sustained during a traffic accident;
• 75% of the sum insured in case of being registered as a group 2 disabled person as a result of injuries sustained during a traffic accident;
• 50% of the sum insured in case of being registered as a group 3 disabled person as a result of injuries sustained during a traffic accident.
